A modern view in an abandoned theatre

Reflections

This piece of art reminds me of the past, time that has passed. Thinking back to where we came from and what we have done. What have you done over the past years; reflect. Imagine yourself here, standing and thinking back of that time. Reflect, learn and look forward.

During the Soviet era, Armenia, like many other republics of the USSR, experienced a cultural boom. Numerous theaters and cultural centers were built to promote the arts and socialist culture. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Armenia, grappling with economic hardships, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and the 1988 Spitak earthquake, saw many of its cultural institutions close down or fall into disrepair, including theaters.
